Substance-related dependence
Substance-related dependence is caused by dependence on chemical substances that bring about changes in brain chemistry.
Alcohol dependence

Consequences: Health problems such as liver disease, increased risk of accidents, and problems in relationships and at work.
Drug addiction

Consequences: Serious health problems, deterioration of mental health, legal problems, and social isolation.
Nicotine dependence

Behavioral dependency
Behavioral addictions refer to dependence on certain activities that provide a sense of reward or satisfaction, but which can ultimately be harmful.
Gambling addiction

Consequences: Financial debt, relationship problems, stress, and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
Internet and gaming addiction
